10 Day Itinerary
Arrive in Ashgabat and transfer to your hotel for overnight stay. After a brief rest, visit the famous Tolkuchka Bazaar, one of Central Asia’s most impressive markets. Here, spend time exploring the massive market which sells all manner of goods from camels to cars. Afternoon commence an introductory city tour, including visits to the Arch of Neutrality and Turkmenbashy Square.
ASHGABAT TO DARVAZA
Continuation of city tour including the Turkmen Carpet Museum and the National Museum. In the afternoon head north into the harsh Kara Kum desert, where you will visit the semi-nomadic village of Erbent before spending the night camping besides the impressive flaming gas crater at Darvaza.
DARVAZA TO KONYE URGENCH AND DASHOGUZ
Head north through the desert to historical Konye Urgench, which was once considered one of the most important cities in the Islamic World. This area, largely destroyed by the Mongols and Timur has many sites of historical interest. Continue to the provincial capital of Dashoguz for brief city tour and overnight stay.
DASHOGUZ TO TURKMENBASHY
Visit the main market of Dashoguz before transfer to the airport for flight to Turkmenbashy, located on the Caspian coast. In the afternoon tour Turkmenbashy before overnight stay here.
DASHOGUZ TO BALKANABAT
After further sightseeing in Turkmenbashy drive inland to the city of Balkanabat, provincial capital of the region. Overnight in Balkanabat.
BALKANABAT TO ASHGABAT
City tour of Balkanabat before commencing the journey back to Ashgabat, via the Monument to the 26 Baku Commissars and the Kow Ata Underground Lake, amongst other sites. Arrive in Ashgabat and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
ASHGABAT TO MARY
Transfer to the airport for flight to Mary. On arriving in Mary head out to explore the historical site of Gonur. Return to Mary for a city tour including a visit to the local Museum. Overnight stay in Mary.
MERV TO ASHGABAT
Depart for a tour of Merv, the ruined historical Silk Road city. From here, return by road to Ashgabat, visiting Abiverd en route. Check-in to hotel in Ashgabat for 2 nights.
Today enjoy a final full day of sightseeing in the Turkmen capital, including sites such as Ashgabat Park and the Parthian site of Nissa.
